B B B B Bard! Bard to the Bone.

Midsummer Night’s Dream is now cast and we are well into rehearsals for what is sure to be a very exciting production of Shakespeare’s classic. The 70s inspire show will see singer/ songwriter fairies, northern soul lovers and as for the Mechanicals….well some things should be a surprise!

The cast are are eclectic mix from amateur groups through the area, young and old, experienced and giving it a go for the first time and are all slightly shaking in there platform boots, wondering if they let alone the audience will understand what they are actually talking about! If the first few rehearsals are anything to go by, I am sure that they will be brilliant.

Costumes are being sought, caesuras are being discovered and laughter ripples through the rehearsal room.

‘I’m the reflection of the community’ Tupac Shakur once said. Well Physical Folk’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be a reflection of this community.

Happy New Year!

We are a community minded professional theatre company based in the North West of England, Cheshire to be precise. We love to travel and our company was born in an Historical Prison in Napier, New Zealand, where our first project was to bring the place to life for children and tourists alike.  Since then we have continued to create work that challenges us as a company but also is highly accessible and provides plenty of opportunity for participation.

We have trained with theatre companies and practitioners from all over the world in including Poland, Japan, Australia, Italy, Germany and Nepal to name a few. We believe that a little knowledge goes along way. We pass our knowledge whenever we can, through organising community classes, productions and workshops, going into schools and public spaces and performing ourselves.

We believe that Art makes sense of things where perhaps Politics and Religion can’t. Its really important to us to create versatile art and theatre in as many different places as possible.

What a fantastic 2012 we had! Creating new work and reaching new audiences. From Cabaret style Shakespeare to story telling in the park. From new audiences to old collaborations. From floating along in a gentle stream of creativity to a great sense of direction in where we going.

What better way to start this exciting New Year then by a new adventure in to the world of blogging. We hope to keep these up often and tell all of what we are doing in and out of the rehearsal room.

In 2013, we will continue to challenge ourselves and reach new audiences through various events – we hope to see you at one of them!
